Activitst Supports JPJ Action Against Employers Using Unlicenced Foreign Drivers

08/08/2025 08:04 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- A road safety activist today expressed his support to the recent decision by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to confiscate vehicles of companies found to be using foreigners as drivers without legal driving licences or work permits.

Datuk Mohammad Hisham Shafie said the move not only enforced the law but sent a clear message that road safety was a shared responsibility that cannot be politicised or compromised.

“Motorist safety is the priority. Employers who are negligent or prioritise profit without regard for the law must face uncompromising stern action,” he said in a statement.

He stressed that such actions by employers would endanger the lives of other motorists and urged enforcement action be carried out frequently.

Under existing regulations, foreigners are not allowed to hold Commercial Goods Licences and violations are serious offences under the Land Public Transport Act 2010, which allows vehicles to be confiscated and forfeited if found guilty.
