JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today graced the Bangsa Johor Bahagia (BJB) project 2.0 at Flat Hijau in Taman Plentong Utama, here.

Upon arrival, Her Majesty was greeted by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and his wife, as well as Johor State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman and his wife.

Also present were state Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim.

According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, Raja Zarith Sofiah also officiated the Kelab Suka Belajar, a study group, before inspecting the club’s room and interacting with the children there.

Earlier, Her Majesty received a briefing on the BJB 2.0 activities from representatives of UTM, the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ) and the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB).

One of the residents, Izwani Md Noor, 38, expressed gratitude for the BJB 2.0 project, which has given the community opportunities to make positive changes.

“The Bangsa Johor Bahagia programme opened our eyes and hearts. It has breathed new life into the community in terms of opportunities, knowledge, awareness and support. We feel appreciated by the palace, state government and UTM, who have always guided us,” he said.

At the ceremony, the state government also presented a mock cheque of RM1 million to Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor (YRZSNJ) for the project. Two schools also received RM10,000 under the foundation’s Johor Starts Go Global.

The BJB project is a high-impact initiative conceived by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia and the Queen, which was introduced at Rumah Pangsa Kangkar Pulai in 2019.
