09/08/2025 05:33 PM

PUCHONG, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- For the first time, Malaysia will host the International Cheerleading Union (ICU) Asian Cheerleading Championships from Oct 16 to 18 next year.

The President of the Cheerleading Association and Register of Malaysia (CHARM), Lim Chin Hau, said that the championships is being organised in line with the improved performance of the national cheerleading squad in previous competitions.

He said that several Asian countries have expressed interest in participating in the championships, which will feature various categories based on age groups.

"Previously, we only sent one or two teams (to the Asian Cheerleading championships). Now we are trying to expand it so that when we host, we are better prepared. We also better understand the capabilities of other teams. This is preparation for next year," he said when met by Bernama at the Charm Cheerleading Team (C3) 2025 Championships here today.

He also stated that CHARM has listed seven teams to represent the country at the Asian Cheerleading Championships on Sept 14 and 15 in Bangkok, Thailand.

"This is the largest number of teams we have sent to give them exposure as preparation for being the host later. In terms of our target, we are aiming for the top three in each category, taking into account the fierce competition from other countries," he said.
