KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The government will continue to promote appreciation of the Quran among the younger generation by leveraging modern technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

“This effort will continue to be intensified for the benefit of a MADANI generation with a Quranic soul,” he said in his welcoming speech at the closing ceremony and prize presentation of the 65th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA), here, today.

The ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul; and Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, Sheikh Dr Salah Muhammad Al-Budair.

Mohd Na'im added that religious affairs agencies will continue to spearhead Quranic development programmes.

“For instance, Darul Quran, under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), has now become a leading reference centre in professional tahfiz, producing thousands of highly skilled huffaz, dedicated to the nation and the ummah.

He said that the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative for tahfiz students was introduced, to produce a generation of huffaz who not only memorise the Quran, but are also equipped with technical, entrepreneurial, and other skills.

Meanwhile, Mohd Na’im said that the MTHQA, themed ‘Membangun Ummah MADANI’, reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to elevate the dignity of the ummah.

“It is hoped that the International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly, first organised by Malaysia on March 9, 1961, will continue to serve as a platform for unifying the ummah,” he said.

The 65th MTHQA, held from Aug 2 to 9, brought together 71 participants from 49 countries.

The winners in the Quran recitation and memorisation categories each received RM40,000 in cash from the government, along with jewellery sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), as well as accompanying prizes and certificates.
