LPG Subsidies To Continue For Small Food Businesses Exceeding 42kg Limit - Armizan

12/08/2025 12:59 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The government will continue to allow micro and small food and beverage businesses to use subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) even if their monthly usage exceeds 42 kilogrammes, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said.

He said the Cabinet on June 5 also directed amendments to be made to the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Regulations 2021 to officially recognise this group.

Speaking during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today, he said the issue of burdening small traders and hawkers does not arise as they will continue to enjoy the benefits of LPG subsidies.

Armizan was responding to a question from Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PN-Rantau Panjang) on the ministry’s measures regarding LPG price hikes said to be affecting small traders and hawkers in rural areas.

He also said that engagement sessions are being conducted until Oct 31 to gather views and proposals from various stakeholders for the amendment.

At the same time, a control mechanism will be introduced to prevent leakages, including the diversion of subsidised gas for commercial purposes, which has been detected in the past, Armizan added.
