12/08/2025 02:03 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Rakyat today passed a motion by the Standing Orders Committee to amend several provisions in the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.

The motion, tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, was approved by a majority voice vote.

In presenting the motion, Azalina said the proposed amendments aimed to enhance the level of executive accountability to the Dewan Rakyat, in addition to aligning with the introduction of the Parliamentary Services Act 2025.

“It is also to elevate the status of Special Select Committees to Standing Select Committees, incorporate several practices and conventions already observed in the Dewan Rakyat into the Standing Orders, and facilitate Members of Parliament in the conduct of House business,” she said.

She said the Standing Orders Committee meeting held on July 23 had agreed to amend, among others, the provision on the appointment of members to the Parliamentary Services Commission under the Parliamentary Services Act 2025 by the Committee of Selection.

Other amendments included the requirement for one day’s notice to refer a bill to the Select Committee and the recall of the House if the sitting lacks a quorum.
