KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Selangor FC are now one step closer to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after defeating Malaysian University (MUFT) 3-1 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium today.
In the first leg match, the Red Giants took just four minutes to open the scoring through Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim who cleverly netted home a pass from Muhmmad Aliff Izwan Yuslan.
Selangor import Alvin Fortes doubled the lead in the 24th minute before Faisal once again registered his name on the scoreboard at the end of the first half.
Entering the second half, Selangor continued to maintain the attacking momentum but failed to find any breaks following MUFT's neat defence.
When Selangor seemed to be about to win the match without conceding, MUFT player Aiman Danial managed to defy the Red Giants when he scored his team's only goal in the 82nd minute.
The Second leg of the Selangor vs MUFT match will be played on Sept 13 at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya.
In Johor, host team Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) kicked off their 2025/26 FA Cup campaign on the right path by defeating UM-Damansara United 5-0 in their first leg Round of 16 match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, today.
The first half was a bit slow, with both teams failing to find their rhythm to break the deadlock.
UM Damansara United was forced to play with 10-man after their captain, Hariz Mansor, was sent off after seeing red in the 38th minute.
JDT coached by Xisco Munoz finally broke the deadlock when Jonathan Silva successfully converted a pass from Shahrul Saad in the 45th minute, putting the Southern Tigers team ahead.
In the second half, JDT, with many experienced players, extended their lead, doubling the score in the 54th minute, also from a header by Silva.
JDT continued their scoring spree, getting their third goal through Alberto Martin in the 79th minute, followed by a penalty converted by Joao Figueiredo in the 90th minute.
Celso Bermedo completed JDT's goalfest a minute later, and the 5-0 score remained until the end of the match.
Meanwhile, in Brunei, newcomers DPMM FC also started their FA Cup campaign on the right foot, with a narrow 3-2 victory over Kuching City FC.
DPMM's goals were scored by Azwan Ali Rahman in the sixth minute, Miguel Oliveira (48th), and Jordan Murray (79th), while Kuching City's goals came from Ronald Ngah and James Okwuosa in the 43rd and 47th minutes, respectively.
