KUCHING, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of media practitioners was reaffirmed today through the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative, which extended assistance to the families of two Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) staff in Sarawak who died recently.
In a statement, the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA Secretariat said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching presented the contributions to Muhd Usman Danial Irwan Budi, son of the late Irwan Budi Annuar, 51, who died on Aug 6 due to lung cancer and kidney disease.
Irwan, who joined RTM in 2005, had served as a radio announcer, reporter and programme producer.
Also receiving assistance was Paul Jackson Ding, husband of the late Geogina Clare, 45, who died on Aug 12 after collapsing at her home.
Geogina had served as a radio announcer at RTM since 2011.
The contributions were presented at the Communications Ministry Excellent Service Award (Sarawak Zone) 2024 ceremony held at RTM Kuching here.
Launched in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023, the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative is spearheaded by the Communications Ministry and implemented by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
To date, 480 media practitioners nationwide have benefitted from the initiative.
Also present were Communications Ministry senior undersecretary (Management) Mazlan Abd Mutalib and Bernama Sarawak Bureau Chief Hamdan Ismail.
