KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has expanded its low-carbon mobility initiatives with 112 operational electric vehicle (EV) charging points along its highways as of June 30.
PLUS managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, in a statement, said the number had already surpassed the initial target of 100 charging points by year-end, contributing to the national target of 1,000 fast-charging points by 2025 under the Low Carbon Mobility Development Plan 2021-2030.
“These EV charging points are strategically located at selected Rest and Service Areas (R&Rs), lay-bys and within selected petrol station premises petrol stations along PLUS and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2) highways, to ensure greater accessibility for users,” she said.
Nik Airina said the average utilisation rate of EV chargers on PLUS highways has shown healthy growth this year, reflecting the rising adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.
She said PLUS is also targeting the launch of Malaysia’s first Highway EV Hub at Seremban R&R (Southbound), expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2027, while aiming to energise 350 EV charging points by 2028.
Meanwhile, PLUS chief commercial officer Mohd Fauzi Puniran said the charging points installed across the PLUS and LPT2 network are Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs), designed to support long-distance travel with faster charging times.
“These chargers offer output power ranging from 47 kW to 200 kW, enabling vehicles to reach up to 80 per cent charge within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle’s specifications and battery level.
“These charging points are equipped with universal CCS2 connectors, compatible with most major EV brands in the market,” he said.
