BACHOK, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The agriculture sector remains the second largest contributor to Kelantan’s economy as it accounts for over 20 per cent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with the services sector leading the way by contributing over 69 per cent.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the agrofood GDP and agricultural output in the state have consistently increased as a result of the constant efforts of variouss departments and agencies as well as the contributions of farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen.
“Climate change and global temperature shifts, uncertaintiess and geopolitical crises, as well as wars and import-export restrictions, particularly food related, have significantly impacted everyone, particularly in terms of the economy and people’s survival.
“As such, many parties have begun emphasising the importance of sufficient food supplies and resources. In Kelantan, we have long aspired to become the country’s food granary and remain proactive by driving various initiatives, programmes and projects focused on food sources, supply and security both for the state and the country,” he said when officiating the launch of the state-level Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) 2025 here today.
He said the state government continued to focus on the transformation of the agriculture and agrofood sector.
He added that although the transformation process takes time to be fully realised, the implementation of high-impact programmes and projects continues in line with changing times
“Through the Kelantan Sejahtera 2033 agenda under the strategic ‘Penghayatan Membangun Bersama Islam’ plan, the state government is on the right track to managing food security. Collaboration with various stakeholders is also part of the state’s approach to achieving this goal, while simultaneously upholding the people’s rights as enshrined in the Federal Constitution,” he said.
