Fadhlina Welcomes Views Of All Parties In Fight Against Bullying

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek welcomes the views and proposals of all parties to improve safety aspects in tackling bullying at all educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE).

She said that she is willing to scrutinise all proposals, including providing psychosocial support and training to teachers and wardens, parent education modules, monitoring at educational institutions and anti-bullying plans, in a bid to address the issue of bullying.

"Efforts to tackle bullying and ensure a safe ecosystem at educational institutions are our shared responsibility.

"The MOE is implementing several important steps to strengthen safety aspects at educational institutions, including carrying out safety audits, installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and setting up safety reformation committees,” she said.

She said this in a post on Facebook after receiving a memorandum from the Malaysian Muslim Students Coalition (GAMIS) and the Malaysian People's Advocacy Coalition (HARAM) regarding improvements to safety monitoring and efforts to combat bullying.

The MOE recently approved a RM3 million allocation for the installation of CCTVs in selected boarding schools, starting immediately, before expanding it in stages to all boarding schools nationwide.

The MOE said this is one of its ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring, prevent unwanted incidents and create a safe and conducive ecosystem for all pupils.
