Sireh Park Upgrades In Line With Johor Green And Maju Johor 2030 Agendas - MB

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Sireh Park, Malaysia’s largest urban community green recreational park, is poised to further strengthen its role as a model for sustainable urban living through a series of ongoing initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades and environmental conservation efforts.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the 139-hectare park in Iskandar Puteri plays a vital role in supporting the Johor Green and Maju Johor 2030 agendas. Beyond serving as a recreational hub, the park acts as a natural carbon sink, helping to absorb emissions, mitigate urban heat, improve air quality, and safeguard ecological balance for the surrounding community.

He said UEM Group Berhad (UEM Group), through its sponsorship of 100 new tree plantings and the upgrading of the Eco Link Bridge within the 343-acre park, has made a significant contribution towards enhancing the quality of life for Johoreans.

“UEM has once again demonstrated that development is not solely about investment and physical growth, but also about improving quality of life and ensuring long-term sustainability.

“As part of this upgrading effort, we also plan to introduce a petting zoo at Sireh Park, which will further enrich its offerings as a community-centric green space,” he said during the Eco Link Bridge launching ceremony today.

Sireh Park, which is managed by the Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust, continues to serve as a hub for recreation, tourism, and ecological conservation.

The newly upgraded Eco Link Bridge, formerly known as the Hill Bridge, was originally constructed as a temporary facility for the 2020 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which were later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its reconstruction, which began last year using environmentally friendly materials, was completed earlier this year. The upgraded bridge is expected to help preserve the park’s natural beauty and ecological balance.

Meanwhile, under the Plant that Tree initiative, more than 10,000 trees have already been planted in less than a decade, with a target of reaching 25,000 trees by 2028.
