KOTA KINABALU, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- About 50,000 people are expected to attend the Sabah-level National Day 2025 celebrations, which will be held along Jalan Tun Fuad Stevens here on Aug 31.

Chairman of the Main Committee for the National Day and Sabah Day 2025 Celebrations, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said Sabah Day will also be celebrated on the same day in the evening, featuring a variety of exciting programmes.

Masidi, who is also the State Finance Minister, said the National Day 2025 celebration will see 157 contingents taking part in the parade, representing various categories including schools, higher learning institutions, uniformed bodies, voluntary associations and non-governmental organisations.

“This year, we will witness something new when 50 scooter riders join the parade as one of the contingents for the first time,” he said at a press conference on the celebrations here today.

He said the event will also be graced by the presence of Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, who is scheduled to arrive at 7.30 am accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is also scheduled to attend.

Masidi also urged members of the public who plan to attend the event to arrive early, as based on last year’s celebration, the parade area was already crowded with people as early as 6 am.

“Sabah Day will be held in the evening at Padang Merdeka as a continuation of the National Day festivities in the morning,” he said.

Masidi also said the Kota Kinabalu City Hall launched a flag-raising campaign on Aug 1, and the response from business premises and the public has been encouraging.

“We encourage all Malaysians in Sabah to fly the flag at their business premises and homes throughout the independence month as a sign of our love and devotion to the state and Malaysia,” he added.
