10,000 Expected To Attend Penang Level National Day Celebration

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The state government is expecting more than 10,000 visitors to attend the 68th Penang state-level National Day celebration at Batu Kawan Stadium, near here on Sunday.

Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang, who is also State Government Official Councils chairman, said the celebration will see 122 contingents involving 7,533 participants in the parade consisting of various departments, state and federal agencies, state and federal statutory bodies, subsidiaries and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“There will be 22 vehicle contingents involving 958 people with 676 vehicles while the total number of committees and staff involved was 1,531 people.

“This brings the total number of contingents and secretariats involved this year to 10,072,” he said in a statement today.

He said the celebration, which will begin at 7.30 am to 11.30 am, would also be enlivened by a patriotic song choir performance by Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Jit Sin, cultural dance performances, Gendang Muhibah performance, a guard of honour from the Royal Malay Regiment and vehicle assets from various departments.

In addition, Law announced that there will be 21 exhibition stalls set up by various departments and agencies while an exhibition of assets and heavy machinery from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) would also be a major attraction to all strata of society.

He said this year's celebration theme is "Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni " which is a reflection of the government's vision to strengthen national development with an approach based on human values, social well-being and justice.

The Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his wife and the state leadership, heads of state and federal departments and other state dignitaries are expected to attend the celebration.
