ABM, CIDB Tech Successfully Trained Over 460,000 Construction Workers

PAPAR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Tech successfully trained 463,679 individuals in the country since its founding in 2001 till July 2025.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the total included 164,350 youths and 299,329 construction personnel.

“This achievement proves how big ABM’s role is in nurturing skilled talent for the national construction industry.

"In Sabah, the regional ABM began operations with only four basic programmes but has developed into a comprehensive skill training centre offering skills from over 55 fields and a total of 196,000 Sabahans have been trained since it began operations,” he said during his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the ABM campus project in Beringgis here today, which was officiated by Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said that with modern facilities and infrastructure, relevant skill programmes and support from state and federal governments, Sabah region ABM would continue to develop as a world-class Construction Training and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) hub - in line with the government and CIDB’s aspirations to prepare a workforce not only technically skilled, but ready to face the challenges of the technological and digital era.

He noted that the construction of the new ABM campus project in Papar was special as it is the first project in Sabah applying 500 Building Information Modelling (BIM) LOD 500, combined with Industrialised Building System (IBS).

“LOD or Level of Details 500 means the new Sabah region ABM campus will have a digital model akin to a real building, complete to be used throughout its entire lifespan: from design, construction, operations till facility maintenance.

“This combination speeds up the construction process, reduces the risk of exceeding costs and ensures an accurate design, and this RM130.6 million project is expected to be completed in 24 months,” he added.
