KANGAR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Seven researchers from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) have been listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists for 2024, as announced by Stanford University, USA.
In a statement today, UniMAP said the prestigious list is published annually based on the Scopus database, using two primary evaluation methods: Career-Long Citation Impact and Single Year Citation Impact. This recognition is one of the most prestigious at the global level.
For the Career-Long Impact category, the three UniMAP researchers recognised are deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) Prof. Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, Prof. Dr Subash Chandra Bose Gopinath from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering Technology (FKTK), and Associate Prof. Dr Azwan Iskandar Azmi from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology (FKTM).
In the Single Year Impact category, seven UniMAP researchers were honoured, including the three mentioned above who were also recognised under the Career-Long Impact category.
“The other four researchers recognised are Associate Prof. Dr Heah Cheng Yong and Associate Prof. Dr Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Jamir from FKTM, Associate Prof. Dr Liew Yun Ming from FKTK, and Dr Wan Azani Wan Mustafa from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Technology (FKTE),” read the statement.
Stanford University began publishing the World’s Top 2% Scientists list in 2019 using a transparent selection methodology that considers citation counts, h-index, and high-impact research performance.
This list, recognised internationally, draws from comprehensive bibliometric data from Scopus, highlighting researchers who consistently contribute significantly to their fields of expertise.
In the same statement, UniMAP’s vice-chancellor, Datuk Prof. Dr Zaliman Sauli, expressed pride in the achievement, adding that it is proof of UniMAP’s researchers’ ability to compete globally.
“This recognition not only raises UniMAP’s profile internationally but also inspires all our researchers to enhance the quality of their publications, innovations, and contributions to knowledge development and societal well-being.
“This success further reinforces UniMAP’s commitment to being a leading technical university in producing world-class researchers,” he added.
