KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is ready to assist industries, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), by providing services for the implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategic plans.
It said this is to ensure MSMEs can adapt and are not burdened with implementing ESG principles through a phased approach as recommended by the government.
“NIOSH also shares its experience, expertise, and various facilities in 13 international-class laboratories to support industries, particularly MSMEs, to improve compliance with various regulations set by the authorities. This includes adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 and achieving the goals outlined in the ESG strategic plan.,” NIOSH said in a statement today.
According to the statement, NIOSH itself integrates ESG sustainability compliance into its daily operations and core services, such as implementing digitalisation processes and management systems in line with international standards for training activities and consulting services.
These good practices are proven to improve the quality of delivery, empower occupational safety and health, preserve the environment and improve administrative integrity and transparency, it said.
Commenting on the implementation of the ESG Strategic Plan, NIOSH said it not only increases competitiveness and attracts foreign investment but also provides a positive impact on the national economy, thus opening up opportunities for local companies to strengthen their position at the global level.
"NIOSH welcomes the National ESG Strategic Plan announced by the government and will continue to provide solutions to support ESG initiatives that can reduce costs to organisations and customers," it said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was reported to have said that the proposed National ESG Strategic Plan had been agreed upon at the 2024 National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Council Meeting.
He said the plan was drawn up in the government's efforts to bring Malaysian business entities in phases towards ESG compliance and reporting, and even beyond the level of compliance, thus creating a competitive advantage and sustainable development for the country.
