KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives is expected to stay in consolidation mode next week until new catalysts emerge.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng told Bernama that trading would likely be muted in conjunction with the Christmas followed by the New Year holidays.

Similarly, SPI Asset Management managing director Stephen Innes said that trading next week is expected to bring the usual holiday slowdown.

Unless a geopolitical shock occurs, he anticipates the market maintaining a somewhat neutral stance.

For the trading week just ended, December 2024 lost 20.0 points to 1,589.50, January 2025 fell 18.0 points to 1,595.0, March 2025 declined 18.5 points to 1,580.0 and June 2025 slid 19.0 points to 1,585.50.

Turnover increased to 31,878 lots from 25,724 lots in the previous week, while open interest improved to 44,108 contracts from 41,593 contracts.

On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the FBM KLCI was 17.34 points lower to 1,591.41 from 1,608.75 in the previous week.
