NARATHIWAT, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- Three rangers were injured in a gunfight with an armed group and a homemade bomb attack in Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat, early this morning.
Si Sakhon District Police Chief, Col. Pol. Pakkawat Wansanuk, said police received a report about a shooting incident involving approximately 10 armed suspects and rangers at 9:30 am local time.
“Police officers who arrived at the scene found three injured rangers and several M16 bullet casings at the location,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Pakkawat explained that the police investigation uncovered a hole about two metres deep, believed to have been used by the armed group to plant a 25-kilogramme homemade bomb.
He stated that the bomb was likely installed in a gas cylinder and activated using a remote control.
According to him, at the time of the incident, six rangers were conducting an investigation following a complaint about a bomb explosion in the area.
“The three injured rangers are currently being treated at Narathiwat Rachanakharin Hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable,” he said.
Pakkawat added that the police are actively pursuing individuals or groups involved in the attack.
