Roy King-Arif Ready For Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- National men's doubles player, Yap Roy King is excited to make his debut at the Malaysia Open with his partner Wan Muhammad Arif Wan Junaidi.

Roy King said he is looking forward to playing before his own fans, describing it as a boost of motivation for himself and his partner to perform better.

"Right now we will feel very happy because it is starting next week (the Malaysian Open). Even now we have started to gain momentum for this tournament.

"In terms of preparation, we are already at the highest level and are ready to play later and hope to get good results later," he said when met at a training session at Academy Badminton  Malaysia (ABM), here, today.

Meanwhile, Wan Muhammad Arif said he and his partner are ready to meet anyone they face in the tournament.

He said that with the experience of playing in the 2024 China Open which has the same standard, namely Super 1000 like the Malaysian Open, will help to play better to some extent.

"The Super 1000 is really big because we have played in the China Open and we will enjoy this tournament and bring out the (strategy and strength) that we have.

"We will just fight because the Malaysian Open is the same as the previous tournament," he said.

The best achievement of the world's 23rd ranked doubles team is finishing as runner-up at the Spanish Masters (Super 300) and reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysian Masters (750).

The last time Malaysia won the men's doubles title was through the Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah pair in 2014.
