TUMPAT, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, under the leadership of Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing aid to residents in Kelantan and Terengganu affected by the recent floods.
Ambassador Ouyang said the embassy has been closely monitoring the situation and actively seeking ways to extend assistance to those in need.
He emphasised the embassy's long-standing commitment to supporting Malaysians in need, particularly Muslim communities, through site visits, donations, and distributing Ramadan food supplies.
"During this visit to Kelantan, we specifically entrusted the Mohd Chan Welfare Organisation (PKMC) to procure essential items for families impacted by the floods. This initiative aims to convey the warmth and friendship of the Chinese government.
"The floods, which have affected Kelantan, Terengganu, and several other areas since the end of last year, have disrupted the lives of tens of thousands of residents," he told reporters after today's donation ceremony for flood-affected families at Surau Biru, Kampung Pulau Gorek, here.
Ouyang shared that 300 flood-affected families in Kelantan received donations totaling approximately RM50,000.
"The contributions, provided by the embassy in collaboration with PKMC and the Kelantan Civil Defence Force, included essential items such as rice, mineral water, cooking oil, flour, and other necessities.
"This continued support reflects the solidarity and close relationship between Malaysia and China, especially during humanitarian crises like floods," he added.
Ouyang also spoke about strengthening the bilateral relations between Malaysia and China, particularly through the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.
"This ECRL project, led by a major Chinese company, is a significant infrastructure undertaking and is now 76 per cent complete," he said, adding that the ECRL project in Terengganu and Kelantan is expected to be completed by the end of this year, a year ahead of its original timeline of 2026–2027.
"The progress is very encouraging, and the cooperation between Chinese workers and their Malaysian counterparts has been excellent," he added.
