JAKARTA, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes the global job market, Indonesia is calling on its graduates to prepare for a surge in demand for digitally skilled workers.
Indonesia’s Communications and Digital Deputy Minister Nezar Patria said AI and other emerging technologies could displace an estimated 92 million jobs globally; however they will also create 170 million new jobs by 2030, requiring specialised skills.
Therefore, he underscored the vital role that postgraduates will play in Indonesia’s digital transformation, urging them to not only gain technical expertise but also lead in innovation, education, and research.
“Every challenge presents an opportunity, and every opportunity requires preparation. Together, let’s work towards building a stronger nation and contributing to the advancement of the world,” he said, speaking at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)’s graduation ceremony in Yogyakarta.
His remarks were released by the ministry on Thursday.
Nezar Patria stated that future skills will not just rely on technical abilities like AI or big data, but also on humanistic skills such as creativity, leadership, flexibility, and resilience to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“UGM postgraduate graduates must be able to bridge traditional values and modern technology to lead innovation, while maintaining harmony with nature and society,” he added.
