1. MALAYSIA URGED TO PROBE FATAL SHOOTINGS OF RI CITIZENS -- THE JAKARTA POST

Indonesia has called on Malaysia to launch a thorough investigation into the recent fatal shooting of its citizens and probe possible “excessive use of force” by Malaysian authorities.

 

2. INSECTS AND WORMS MAY FEATURE IN INDONESIA’S NUTRITIOUS MEAL PROGRAMME -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) plans to introduce insects and worms into its free nutritious meal programme (MBG) as an alternative protein source, reflecting local dietary practices and addressing budget constraints.

 

CAMBODIA 

1. TECHO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT NEAR COMPLETION -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation said the Techo International Airport is 94 per cent completed as of January 20 and scheduled to be operational in July 2025. The construction of the passenger terminal, power supply centre and airport apron were completed last year. 

 

2. RISE IN CONTAINER THROUGHPUT AT PORTS -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) registered a healthy container throughput growth last year. PAS handled 9.60 million tonnes of containerised cargo last year, while PPAP’s container throughput was 4.51 million. 

 

LAOS

1. KOREA TO STUDY ON WASTEWATER TREATMENT -- VIENTIANE TIMES

A Korean-funded feasibility study for developing a wastewater treatment system began in Vientiane. The project aims to improve living conditions, foster sustainable urban development and support long-term environmental and economic growth.

 

2. LARGE-SCALE HORTICULTURE PROJECT INITIATED -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, supported by several Chinese companies, will develop large-scale cultivation of tobacco, sugarcane and bananas. It will encourage the development of the agricultural sector, personnel training, generate tax revenue and job creation.

 

MYANMAR

1. INDIA-MYANMAR FOOD FEST IN FEBRUARY -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The India-Myanmar Food Festival will be held in  Yangon on February 23, as part of the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation initiative. It is jointly organised by the Indian Women’s Association in Yangon and the Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Network and supported by the Indian embassy.

 

2. GOVERNMENT EFFORTS TO COMBAT CYBERCRIME -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

A meeting was held in Nay Pyi Taw to tackle cyber crimes in border areas linked to financial fraud, human trafficking, drugs, forced labour and money laundering. Foreign victims entangled in the crime are rescued and returned to their respective countries.
