PUTRAJAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- A journalist from a news portal who was detained last Friday (Feb 28) on suspicion of being involved in a corruption case, was released today.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the man was released today after his remand period ended.

"He was released today on MACC bail and the investigation is ongoing," he said when contacted by Bernama today, adding that several other individuals will be called in to complete the investigation.

He said the investigation paper is being finalised before being submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.

Yesterday, Azam was reported as saying that the detention of the male journalist was related to allegations of corruption under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and not about any news reports he had written.

The journalist is suspected of soliciting and receiving a bribe of RM20,000 in exchange for taking down an uploaded article and for refraining from writing further about a foreign worker recruitment agency allegedly involved in a syndicate.
