KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The International Construction Week (ICW) and Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2024 successfully registered RM654.4 million in projected trade value this year, marking a 32 per cent surge from RM494.3 million in 2023.
The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab said ICW & BuildXpo 2024 is a testament to CIDB’s relentless drive to elevate Malaysia’s construction industry.
“Our record-breaking achievements reflect the growing global recognition of Malaysia’s construction capabilities and our firm commitment to innovation,” he said in a statement today.
Besides, CIDB Malaysia chief executive officer Zainora Zainal said that through initiatives like the “Construction 4.0 Roadmap” and the promotion of industrialised building systems, CIDB is charting a transformative path for the Malaysian construction sector.
“ICW & BuildXpo 2024 affirms our strategic vision and underscores the sector’s critical role in driving economic growth,” she said.
According to the statement, the Oct 22-24 regional event was hosted by the Ministry of Works, organised by CIDB Malaysia and managed by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
It showcased the nation’s leadership in construction excellence, bringing together nearly 15,000 professionals, policymakers, and innovators alongside 200 exhibitors from 20 countries.
“From advanced robotics to next-generation smart building systems and 3D printing technologies, ICW & BuildXpo 2024 positions Malaysia as a pivotal hub for construction innovation,” it said.
The event was underpinned by three key agreements that would shape the future of Malaysia’s construction sector, namely the building information modelling accreditation collaboration with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, strategic partnership with PlanRadar, and pioneering memorandum of understanding with Wenma Scaffolding Solutions and Services Malaysia.
“ICW & BuildXpo 2024 also featured eight documents of understanding signed with partners from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Norway, and Spain.
“These agreements, projected to deliver RM20 million to 30 million in value over three years, span technology transfer, advanced training programmes, and cutting-edge construction methodologies,” the statement said.
The event’s international sourcing programme also recorded significant success, generating RM152.2 million in trade value.
