KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family of former Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) director-general Datuk Jaafar Kamin, who passed away at the age of 81 at his residence in Seksyen 9, Kota Damansara, this afternoon.
Fahmi described Jaafar's passing as a significant loss to the nation's broadcasting industry.
“As director-general from 1988 to 1999, the late Jaafar made invaluable contributions to the advancement of Malaysia's broadcasting sector, including strengthening the role of media in shaping society.
“Condolences to the entire family of the deceased. May Allah bless his soul and place him among the righteous,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Jaafar's passing was confirmed by a close family member, Rosihan Anuar Ahmad, who informed Bernama that Jaafar died at 3.15 pm.
Rosihan said the remains would be taken to Masjid Kuning, Seksyen 5, Kota Damansara, for bathing and funeral prayers before being laid to rest at the Seksyen 9 Kota Damansara Muslim Cemetery after the Isyak prayers.
Jaafar is survived by his wife and two daughters.
