SEPANG, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will implement a zero-use plastic straw programme and improvements to the Plastic-Free Programme involving the use of single-use plastics at all Ramadan bazaars under its supervision next year.
MPSepang deputy president Muhamad Shah Osmin said visitors are encouraged to bring their own food containers to the Ramadan bazaars to support the 2025 Plastic-Free Campaign.
"The implementation of this programme will indirectly provide awareness and exposure to the local community on how important it is for us to care for the environment by supporting such campaigns,” he said in his message in conjunction with the Full Meeting of the MPSepang Council Members No 12/2024 here today.
He said 12 Ramadan bazaar sites will be opened next year, involving 886 lots.
He added that the Ramadan bazaar sites will be in Kip Mall; Cyberjaya; Taman Mas; Desa Pinggiran Putera; Kosmopleks; Taman Putra Perdana; Sungai Merab; Dengkil Jaya; Dengkil; Sungai Pelek; Sepang International Circuit (SIC); and Sepang Putra.
Muhamad Shah said the Sepang Putra Ramadan bazaar is being reopened due to the demand and population increase in the area.
The SIC Ramadan bazaar, meanwhile, is the latest to be introduced by MPSepang in collaboration with the SIC management.
"With the presence of these Ramadan bazaars, the local community can save time buying their buka puasa delicacies and help support the economic growth of small traders in the Sepang district, in addition to becoming a tourist attraction,” he said, adding that it will be mandatory for every trader to have cashless transactions.
He said the online application for the Ramadan bazaars, open since Dec 9, will close on Jan 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, Muhamad Shah said that, in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2025, MPSepang is constantly striving to improve and upgrade infrastructures in the Sepang to attract more visitors to the district.
