Escape Penang Set Two New Guiness World Records

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Escape Penang has once again etched its name in the Guinness World Records (GWR), securing two new titles and solidifying its status as a world-class theme park.

The park, located in Teluk Bahang, now holds records for the World’s Largest Tipping Bucket and the World’s Longest Tubby Racer, adding to its existing achievements.

The giant bucket, capable of holding 28,757 litres of water, takes approximately 10 minutes to fill before dramatically tipping over, drenching visitors below in a thrilling waterfall experience, while the World’s Longest Tubby Racer which stretches an impressive 453.3 metres allows visitors to slide through the rainforest at over 30 kilometres per hour (km/h), offering an exhilarating yet scenic adventure.

These latest records complement Escape Penang’s previous GWR titles, namely The Longest Tube Water Slide (1,111 metres) and The Longest Zip Coaster (1,135 metres), which were set in 2019 and 2022, respectively.

Owner and operator of Escape Penang, Sim Leisure Group founder and chief executive officer, Datuk Sim Choo Kheng, received the GWR certification from GWR adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura, earlier today, witnessed by Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.

According to Sim, breaking world records was never his main intention for Escape Penang.

“The number one goal is not to maximize the length or volume of these rides – it’s all about maximising smiles per hour.

“Tubby rides all around the world are always straight. When I saw the hill where the Tubby Racer would be, I realised the track would have curves and weave its way through the trees to avoid cutting them down or defacing the hill.

“So, the Tubby Racer took a big turn, making the ride much more exciting as guests ride down through the hill surrounded by trees and greenery,” he said.

Sim said the theme park attracted 240,000 visitors last year and hoped to increase the number by at least 10 per cent this year to 250,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, Wong said the two new world records further solidify Penang’s reputation as a leader in innovation and tourism.

He noted that since opening in 2012, Escape Penang has continually expanded and enhanced its offerings, featuring attractions such as Adventureplay, Waterplay, Gravitiplay, and Base Camp.

“We take great pride in being home to the world’s longest tube water slide and the longest zip coaster – two major crowd-pullers that draw tourists to Penang. I understand that many visitors come specifically to experience these rides, which are unique to Penang.

“Escape Penang has not only created world-class attractions; it has also pioneered a new genre in the theme park industry – the Retro Eco Adventure Park, which promotes eco-literacy through fun and engaging experiences,” he said.

Wong also urged all tourism players in Penang to adopt a global mindset and strive for a paradigm shift to remain competitive in a crowded industry, particularly in an ever-evolving business landscape influenced by technological change and shifting generational trends.
