SEREMBAN, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Heavy rain from 10 pm yesterday caused flash floods in Jelebu, forcing the evacuation of 51 people from 11 families.
Jelebu Civil Defence Officer Lt (PA) Mohd Najib Abdul Karim said the evacuees were moved out of Ladang Jelebu, Taman Pekan Baru, and Taman Bandar Tinggi to a relief centre at Dewan D'Sury.
“The overflowing river and drainage system issues also contributed to the flooding. Floodwaters have yet to recede, with drizzles continuing,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the flood rescue operation involved 12 Civil Defence Force personnel, 10 from the Fire and Rescue Department, three from the Royal Malaysia Police, five from the Social Welfare Department, and two from the State Assembly Service Centre.
