MAIWP Allocates RM6.5 Mln In Zakat Aid In Labuan For Ramadan, Aidilfitri 

LABUAN, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM6.5 million in zakat funds for 6,500 registered asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) here through its Special Ramadan and Aidilfitri Assistance programme this year.

Labuan MAIWP manager Md Fadzli Md Saad said each asnaf, who also receives MAIWP’s monthly aid, would receive RM1,000.

“The funds are disbursed in two phases, RM500 was before Ramadan and another RM500 before Aidilfitri, directly into their respective bank accounts.

"For the Ramadan assistance, MAIWP has already deposited RM500 into recipients’ accounts starting last week (before Ramadan), with the remaining RM500 to be disbursed before Aidilfitri," he told Bernama today.

He said MAIWP has approved RM54,000 in zakat funds to support 180 orphaned students from Darul Kifayah and MAIWP religious school students through the Aidilfitri Assistance programme.

“Each student will receive RM300, which will be credited to their accounts before Aidilfitri,” he said.

Meanwhile, 12 outstanding students who are currently studying at public institutions of higher learning in the country have received the 2024/2025 MAIWP Special Incentive Scholarship amounting to RM407,170.

Md Fadzli said the scholarship covers tuition fees, living allowances, accommodation costs and study materials based on the students' current course expenses at their respective universities.

“We hope this contribution will inspire them to continue excelling in their studies and ultimately improve their family's situation,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to zakat contributors for their unwavering commitment to fulfilling their obligations each year.

Md Fadzli said last year, MAIWP allocated RM10 million for the education cluster to support Labuan students.
