KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Student Representative Council (SRC) have proven their exceptional leadership and innovative thinking by winning the PayNet Digital Campus 3.0 competition, securing double victories in both the university and SRC categories.
In a statement today, UTP said that their vision for a fully cashless campus earned them the top spot and a combined prize of RM200,000.
“The PayNet Digital Campus 3.0 initiative, spearheaded by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) aims to accelerate the adoption of cashless transactions in Malaysian university campuses,” it said.
Meanwhile, UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Affairs Prof Dr Nor Hisham Hamid in the same statement said the university has been actively promoting the use of digital payment methods like DuitNow QR and MyDebit for various transactions such as food purchases and campus services.
He said the SRC plays a crucial role in driving digital payment adoption on campus, and they were involved in developing and implementing campaigns to promote cashless transactions among students.
"We are incredibly proud of our students' achievement. This victory reflects UTP's commitment to fostering innovation and embracing digital transformation.
"Our students' vision for a cashless campus aligns perfectly with Malaysia's goal of becoming a digital economy leader,” he said.
UTP's winning team led by Abdul Mukmin Abdul Yakup presented a comprehensive plan emphasising the benefits of a safer, more reliable and efficient digital payment ecosystem.
The team which included Liroshen Kumar Kailasam, Khairil Amir Muhd Hanif Hooi, Por Jie Hao, Nur Syahalisah Nurdin, Ryaan James Rozario, Nur Irdina Mohamad Hisham, Dzul Firdaus, Mohammad Izzat Faiq Lau Muhammad Lau and Ding Sing Yew demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication throughout the competition.
Higher Education Director General Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman and PayNet Group Chief Executive Officer Farhan Ahmad presented the awards to Nor Hisham for the university category and Abdul Mukmin for the SRC category, recognising UTP's outstanding contribution to the digital campus initiative.
