‘Sekolah Parlimen’ Programme Kicks Off With 60 Student Leaders From Perlis

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 60 student leaders from schools in Perlis became the first group to participate in the ‘Sekolah Parlimen’ Programme 2025, which commenced at the Parliament building today.

In a statement, the Office of the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat said the programme, organised in collaboration with the Education Ministry, aims to provide secondary school students with early exposure to the country’s parliamentary democracy system and national policy-making processes.

The programme also seeks to nurture leadership qualities among students, instil patriotism towards national institutions and cultivate civic responsibility and integrity among the younger generation.

“Participants will take part in simulated parliamentary sessions, guided tours, dialogue sessions with Members of Parliament and young leaders, as well as activities to deepen their understanding of the parliamentary institution.

“The programme will run in phases from July 21 to Dec 4, 2025, in line with the Dewan Rakyat’s sitting schedule,” the statement read.

It added that more than 1,000 students from across the country are expected to join the programme by the end of this year.

The ‘Sekolah Parlimen’ initiative is part of the Malaysian Parliament’s long-term strategy to strengthen democratic institutions through civic education and youth involvement.

In a recent exclusive interview with Bernama, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the programme is among the institutional reforms being implemented to foster interest and understanding, particularly among the younger generation, in the nation’s legislative body.
