KUANTAN, July 29 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Baging here, has become the first MADANI Adopted School of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) aimed at instilling leadership and patriotism among students.
MMEA director-general, Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, said the programme is not just about corporate social responsibility (CSR), but a long-term effort to build character, discipline, and identity in young people.
“SMK Sungai Baging was chosen because of our close collaboration since 2018. The school is also the first to establish the Maritime Cadet Corps, which started in January 2020. Currently, there are 310 cadets,” he said.
The launch event held today was also attended by MMEA deputy director-general (Logistics) Admiral Datuk Saiful Lizan Ibrahim.
The MADANI Adopted School programme is part of the government’s initiative led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It connects capable organisations - government agencies, GLCs, and private companies, with schools that need support, especially in rural areas.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rosli also shared that the construction of a multi-purpose flagship vessel (MPMS) by Turkish shipbuilder Desan Shipyard is ahead of schedule.
“The project is progressing faster than planned, and we expect the ship to be ready sooner. We also plan to showcase it at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2027,” he added.
