KOTA KINABALU, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Penang’s Malaysian Anti‑Corruption Commission (MACC) director, Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, has been appointed as Sabah MACC director, effective Aug 15.

In a statement today, MACC said he replaces Datuk S Karunanithy, who will take over as the new Penang MACC director.

The handover of duties ceremony was witnessed by MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex today.

“The focus should not only be on preventing corruption, but also on finding ways to help the state government plug leakages so that these efforts produce long‑term benefits,” said Ahmad Khusairi.

Ahmad Khusairi said the appointment of Mohd Fuad, a native of Sabah, is expected to further advance the anti‑corruption agenda with greater aggression and strategic focus.

He noted that, during his tenure as Sabah MACC director, Karunanithy not only played a key role in building public trust in the commission but also successfully led several major operations that demonstrated the state office’s commitment to fighting corruption and abuse of power.

“He has shown exceptional commitment, firm leadership and strategic thinking in overcoming significant challenges throughout his service,” he said.

Meanwhile, Karunanithy said the success of Sabah MACC during his term was the result of strategic cooperation among all stakeholders, including federal and state departments as well as media partners.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Sabah government, particularly Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, for consistently supporting all initiatives and proposals related to operations, prevention and governance improvements during his tenure.

“I have led MACC Sabah for five years and 11 months, from Sept 17, 2019. I urge MACC Sabah personnel to continue working together and uphold a culture of integrity and professionalism,” he said.
