LAHAD DATU, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Sabah Electricity has detected 100 houses and 70 premises involved in illegal electricity connections and meter tampering during a three-day enforcement operation, codenamed ‘Op Martabat’, conducted around Lahad Datu.

In a statement, Sabah Electricity said that the joint operation with the Royal Malaysia Police found that 100 houses were involved in illegal electricity connections, while 70 premises were found to have tampered with meter installations.

“During Op Martabat in Lahad Datu, the estimated revenue loss due to illegal electricity use was approximately RM273,000 per month. These illegal activities not only endanger lives but also result in significant financial losses to the country and disrupt electricity supply to legitimate consumers.

Sabah Electricity also expressed its appreciation to the police and all parties involved in the operation, which aims to tackle one of the key factors contributing to electricity supply issues in the state.

It added that Op Martabat will continue until Aug 30, and targets a reduction in the system loss rate in Lahad Datu from 17.17 per cent to 15 per cent.

The public is also urged to report any suspicious activities related to electricity supply by contacting the Sabah Electricity hotline at 15444 or via the mySESB mobile application.
