MELAKA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 200 amateur radio operators will be conducting the Call Que (CQ) programme in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day starting today until Sept 20.

Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters’ Society (MARTS) deputy president Zanirul Akhmal Zanirun said his party would also activate 14 special amateur radio stations nationwide for the programme.

“The organisation of the annual CQ National Day and Malaysia Day programme aims to strengthen and invigorate the spirit of independence, especially among amateur radio operators and their family members in the country, in line with the National Day theme, “Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni”.

“In this context, all relevant amateur radio stations will make and receive calls not only from amateur radio operators in the country but from all over the world,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Explaining further, Zanirul Akhmal said that apart from the National Day and Malaysia Day celebration speeches, communication with foreign radio stations will provide a means to channel various information about the country such as interesting tourist locations and the cultural beauty of the country inhabited by many races.

“MARTS as the parent association under the auspices of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) will coordinate all applications for special callsigns with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“A total of 14 unique call signs such as 9M25M(x) will be requested to be used throughout the 2025 National Day CQ. For example, in Melaka, the call sign used is 9M25MM which will be fully operated by the Melaka Amateur Radio Communications Club (MERRAC),” he said.

He said that in addition to the National Day CQ, Merdeka Net was also being conducted on August 30 and 31 with local amateur radio stations having the opportunity to deliver National Day greetings and exchange current information and information related to the various radio equipment and technologies they use.

In 2024, a total of 14 Merdeka CQ stations were operated with more than 12,000 calls received from within and outside the country throughout the duration of the programme, including communication via Morse code signals.
