PADANG BESAR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, urged the people of Perlis to optimise the facilities of the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) operating in the state for the advancement of themselves, their families and the community.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said there are 17 NADIs statewide that play an important role as local community reference hubs, in addition to providing access to various forms of training and information as well as comprehensive guidance.

"Let us together take advantage of this opportunity to build a more digitally literate, competitive and progressive society," he said when officiating the Perlis Connect programme at Padang Besar Street here today.

Also present were Perlis State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rus'sele Eizan and Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Also present were Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) member Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said that the organisation of Perlis Connect was not just an initiative to expand internet access but a true manifestation of comprehensive digital inclusion that encompasses all levels of society, regardless of background or location.

"The firm commitment shown by the Ministry of Communications, the MCMC, Bernama, telecommunications companies and strategic partners is truly commendable," he said.

The Raja Muda of Perlis emphasised that technology is no longer limited to big cities but is now also illuminating small towns and villages, creating job opportunities, increasing sources of income and improving the people's quality of life in a holistic manner.

His Royal Highness said the launch of the Perlis Connect initiative is also a symbol of the success of a strong strategic collaboration, based on a shared vision and collective spirit to ensure that every layer of society benefits from advances in digital technology.

"This integrated effort should be continued and expanded to ensure a continuous impact on the people," he said.

The Raja Muda of Perlis said activities such as engagement sessions between the public and service providers, briefings on (data) roaming, exposure related to cybersecurity, and e-learning are among the important steps in shaping a digitally literate society.

At the same time, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said digital transformation is not merely a matter of building infrastructure such as 5G towers, but is also about noble values such as trust, ethics and digital discipline.

"I envision a younger generation that is tech-savvy, confident senior citizens and youth with leadership spirit and responsibility. I am committed to supporting all initiatives that bring value, skills and dignity to the people of this state," said His Royal Highness.

Perlis Connect, organised by MCMC in collaboration with Bernama, among others, aims to guide the public on safe internet usage, including avoiding cyberbullying and scams, as well as raising public awareness on roaming so that additional charges are not incurred when near border areas.

The programme also provides an opportunity for the community to learn about NADI facilities, as Perlis Connect also provides a platform for NADI Perlis entrepreneurs to market their products.

Apart from that, the one-day event includes pocket talks on bullying issues as part of the government's efforts to intensify the anti-bullying campaign among students.
