Government Committed To Justice For All Malaysians - Anwar

20/08/2025 02:58 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that justice is upheld for all Malaysians, regardless of whether they are from the majority or minority ethnic groups.

While addressing the Ministry of Finance monthly assembly, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said every approach implemented must be fair by taking into consideration the people’s needs and, as such, the government will continue to listen to and examine all views through ongoing dialogue.

“… if we want to save the country, we must ensure justice for the majority and the minority. We do not want the tyranny of the majority, we do not want the tyranny of the minority. The approach must be fairer.

“Whatever weaknesses (there are), we will improve in the budget (Budget 2026). We are listening to all views, we will make adjustments and improvements in the coming budget. What we are doing now is not necessarily perfect, there are shortcomings. That’s why the dialogue must continue,” he said.

Also present were Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Deputy Minister of Finance Lim Hui Ying.

Anwar also explained that the government’s allocation is distributed fairly to all segments of society through a transparent approach, without marginalising any ethnic group.

“If people ask me why I’m focusing on the Indian community, then I will say that although their numbers are small, we must not be like certain countries where the minorities are pushed aside. We do not want that.

“There are oppositions raising concerns about how an agency, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which has 90 per cent Malays, has an Indian as its head. To me, that is not an issue… if someone has the capability and can lead effectively, we highlight them,” he said, referring to the appointment of Datuk M. Kumar as the CID director.

On the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35), Anwar said it is a more meaningful and targeted programme for the Bumiputera community, aimed at developing the group’s socio-economy in the long term, in addition to ensuring substantive Bumiputera participation.
