KARYAWAN HOLDS 'MAJLIS SEMARAK ZULHIJAH' IN LEMBAH PANTAI

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- Over 150 artistes, journalists, and congregants attended a Yasin and Tahlil recital for deceased artistes at Surau Ibadurrahman of the Kampung Limau People's Housing Programme (PPR) in Lembah Pantai, today.

Held in conjunction with ‘Majlis Semarak Zulhijah’, the event was organised by the Malaysian Artistes’ Association (Karyawan) in collaboration with the surau, starting at 7 pm.

The event’s spokesman, Akhmarulizam Ahmad said among those commemorated in the Tahlil recital were popular entertainment journalist Kamal Huzaini Kamaludin and veteran artistes Datuk Hail Amir, Pyan Habib, and Jaafar Onn.

Akhmarulizam, who is also the chairman of the Niq Ehsan Malaysia Welfare Organisation, said that the Tahlil recital was also for the residents of PPR Kampung Limau.

Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez said Surau Ibadurrahman was chosen as the venue as it was frequented by the late Kamal Huzaini, affectionately known as ‘Huzz’, who passed away on June 8.

“We have organised events in conjunction with Zulhijah before, but it has been a long time since we last did so,” he said, adding that many fellow artistes had passed away, making the Yasin and Tahlil recital an appropriate ceremony to hold.

Freddie also mentioned that in the coming weeks, Karyawan planned to visit the homes of struggling artistes, including one named Iqbal, who had vision problems.

Karyawan vice-president Radhi Khalid was also present at the event tonight.

Legendary singer Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim noted the encouraging attendance at the Yasin and Tahlil recital, and expressed her gratitude to those who came.

“We will continue to do more charity work for our colleagues in the industry, including writers, cameraman, and makeup artists,” said Khatijah, who also donated to the surau.

Khatijah said the late Huzz loved visiting Surau Ibadurrahman.

“It’s nostalgic for us to remember him here,” she said, describing Huzz as a courteous journalist who made her feel comfortable and happy during interviews.

The event commenced after Maghrib prayers, with special ‘hajat’ prayers, followed by the Yasin and Tahlil ceremony.
