KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Findings from the Agriculture Census 2024 will be used for the periodic publication of agricultural statistics and for formulating, monitoring and evaluating programmes to strengthen national food security.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said this includes updating agricultural indicators within the Gross Domestic Product for the agriculture sector and developing the Agricultural Input Price Index and the National Food Security Indicator.
“The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) believes that comprehensive and up-to-date data collection and analysis play a crucial role in planning and implementing more structured and effective initiatives.
“The use of accurate and relevant data enables efficient resource allocation, thus improving the country’s food security,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) about the latest status of the Agricultural Census 2024 data analysis and how its findings will be used to improve the nation’s food security.
The Agriculture Census 2024 was launched on July 4 last year to establish the Integrated Agricultural Statistics Database (MySAgR), which can be integrated with administrative data from relevant ministries and agencies to create a more comprehensive and unified database.
Arthur said the census data analysis is currently at the finalisation stage of preliminary findings.
At the same time, he said the Department of Statistics Malaysia, in collaboration with KPKM, the Plantation and Commodities Ministry, the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry and state and district agencies, is actively conducting data verification and validation.
