MANILA, March 4 (Bernama-PNA) -- The Manila city government on Tuesday suspended face-to-face classes at all levels in both public and private schools due to a high heat index, Philippine News Agency reported.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna made the announcement in a social media post late Monday, citing the recommendation of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“Schools are advised to shift to any alternative learning modality,” she added.

She also urged residents to take precautions, as Manila’s heat index is expected to peak at 43°C on Tuesday.

Other areas have also announced class suspensions due to soaring heat indices:

Quezon City – No face-to-face classes for kindergarten to senior high school (public schools)

Bacoor, Cavite – No face-to-face classes for preschool to Grade 12 (public and private schools)

Abucay, Bataan – All levels suspended (public and private schools)

Orani, Bataan – All levels suspended (public and private schools)

Samal, Bataan – All levels suspended (public and private schools)
