FMM President Urges Manufacturers To Update Workers On Socso’s New Medical Initiative 

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Manufacturers are encouraged to inform their workforce about the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) latest initiative aimed at streamlining the medical treatment process for employees with work-related injuries.

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai said this initiative eliminates the need for workers to pay out of pocket when seeking treatment at Socso panel clinics.

“FMM fully supports this improvement as it makes medical care more accessible, reduces financial strain on workers, and ensures faster treatment without delays.

“With this new arrangement, workers can now receive treatment at any of the 1,400 Socso panel clinics nationwide without having to pay first, as the clinics will claim the costs directly from Socso.” he said in a statement today.

Previously, he said that workers had to pay for their medical treatment upfront, typically between RM150 and RM200 per visit, and later claim reimbursement from Socso.

“By removing the need for upfront payments, this initiative reduces the burden on workers seeking medical attention, allowing them to get the care they need without financial worries.

“This also helps employees focus on recovery while minimising work disruptions, ultimately benefiting both workers and employers,” he said.

Soh added that this enhancement aligns with FMM’s commitment to advocating for policies that balance worker welfare with industry needs.

“Faster and easier access to medical treatment allows businesses to manage workplace health more effectively while ensuring a safer and more productive workforce.

“FMM looks forward to continued collaboration with Socso and the Ministry of Human Resources to enhance worker protection schemes that benefit both employees and employers,” he added.
