KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The United Nations Association of Malaysia (UNAM) has strongly condemned the recent policy announcement by the United States (US) President Donald Trump's administration, describing it as an attempt to undermine Palestinian sovereignty and violate international law.
UNAM President Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the policy, which includes proposals to relocate Palestinians from their homeland, is "diabolical, bereft of merit, and highly provocative."
"It suggests ethnic cleansing and runs counter to the consistent and established efforts by the international community, including previous US administrations, to safeguard and promote the rights of the Palestinian people through an amicable, sustainable, and equitable two-state solution," he said in a statement today.
Mustapa stressed that the fundamental right of the Palestinian people to their homeland "cannot be frittered away with arbitrary, deplorable and unjust proposals."
UNAM also called on the international community, particularly the United Nations General Assembly, to "come out in full force to condemn and deplore this highly arbitrary action to deprive the Palestinian people of their legitimate homeland."
The association further urged world leaders to take definitive steps towards implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, adopted on November 22, 1967, which calls for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories and the recognition of Palestinian rights.
"There cannot be any compromise or deviation from this important resolution," Mustapa said.
Early this month, Trump proposed a plan to relocate approximately two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan.
The proposal includes transforming Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East" under US oversight, aiming to redevelop the area into a hub for tourism, agriculture, and technology.
This plan has been met with significant international criticism, with many viewing it as a violation of international law and an act of ethnic cleansing.
