JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) has contributed RM60,000 in zakat wakalah to benefit 200 asnaf students from 10 schools in the state to buy school supplies.
UDA Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Zahrin Zakaria said the UDA Cares Back to School 2025@South programme allocates RM300 for each recipient to buy the supplies at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall here.
"This yearly programme is a corporate social responsibility initiative that aligns with UDA's role to help improve the local community's well-being, particularly among the Bumiputera.
"It is hoped that this assistance will inspire and uplift the students, helping them to start the new school year more comfortably, while also easing the burden of providing school supplies on their families," he said at today's programme launch.
UDA Investment and Property Management Senior Vice President Mohd Nazri Jamiran, Angsana Johor Bahru Mall Chief Operating Officer Imran Salleh and UDA Land (South) Sdn Bhd Chief Operating Officer Ismail Dasuki were also present.
Zahrin said the 10 schools under UDA's development region are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Danga, SK Kompleks UDA, SK UDA 2, SK Kampung Pasir, SK Pengkalan Rinting, SK Tasek Utara, SK Taman Cempaka, SK Seri Kenanga, SK Seri Melati, and SK Perumahan Tampoi 2.
He said the efforts are the company's commitment to supporting sustainability aspirations by focusing on social and economic activities for the community and country in line with its new branding principles of 'L.I.F.E' (Legacy, Integrated, Finesse and Enrich).
According to him, similar initiatives were carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives in December last year, benefitting 102 students in Sandakan, Sabah, and 200 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Bahaman, Lanchang in Pahang.
Meanwhile, SK Kompleks UDA headmistress Rafidah Mohd Yussup said the initiative helps ease the financial burden on parents in purchasing school supplies, adding that she hopes such initiatives will continue.
SK Seri Kenanga headmaster Souib Hamad said the school is honoured to be selected as most pupils come from low-income families. He added that UDA's continued commitment to assisting the underprivileged must be praised.
