KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) team have announced Chevrolet as their new constructor for the 2025 season, marking a significant milestone for the team.

The two Johor princes - Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Hassanal Jefri Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim - will compete in the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, making JMR the first team in the region to field the race car with two entries this season.

Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Programme director Mark Stielow said it was an honour to welcome JMR as a Corvette Z06 GT3.R customer team.

“We are excited to watch and support Prince Jefri, Prince Abu Bakar, and all of JMR throughout the season.

“We are also pleased to see the continued interest in our Corvette GT3 around the world and look forward to building this relationship with JMR, as it provides additional exposure and opportunities not just for Corvette Racing but also the Corvette brand in new markets,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Rahman, who is also the JMR team president and principal driver, was thrilled with the new partnership.

“I still remember the moment when I first walked into the GM (General Motors) HQ (headquarters) in Detroit (in the United States) for a visit. Their facility is incredible and I was really impressed with what I saw.

“Everyone from the GM family was so welcoming and I can’t wait to get started with the season, and work closely with our new manufacturer. We are happy to be the first team running the Z06 in the region, especially with two cars this season. Hopefully, it will be the start of a long and successful collaboration.

Since their debut in 2019, in collaboration with Triple Eight Race Engineering and Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing, JMR have won three championship titles and secured 53 podium finishes.

The team’s most successful year was in 2022 when they won the GT World Challenge Asia Team and Pro-Am Drivers’ Championships (Tunku Abdul Rahman), as well as the GT Australia Endurance Championship.

Tunku Abdul Rahman was also the Pro-Am runner-up in the 2021 GT World Challenge Australia and the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series, while his younger brother, Tunku Abu Bakar finished as drivers’ runner-up in the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia in his debut season.

A constructor is a company that designs and builds race cars for competition.
