JAKARTA, March 11 (Bernama) -- Over 1.3 million pieces of harmful content, including pornography and online gambling, have been removed from the internet in Indonesia between October 2024 and March 2025, thanks to the active involvement of the public, according to the Ministry of Communications and Digital.
Of the total content removed, 233,552 pieces were related to pornography, with websites contributing 219,578 cases, Platform X (formerly Twitter) accounting for 10,173 cases, and the remaining 3,801 cases linked to other platforms.
For online gambling, 1.12 million pieces were removed, with websites and IP addresses responsible for 1.02 million cases, followed by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) with 46,207 cases, and the remaining 55,368 cases coming from various other platforms, the ministry reported in a statement.
Its digital space oversight director-general Alexander Sabar stressed that, while significant progress has been made, the figures underscore the ongoing challenge posed by websites and social media platforms in controlling harmful online content.
Despite the progress, he noted that the spread of negative content remains a significant concern, pointing out that in just the first eight days of March 2025 alone, over 58,000 pieces of harmful content had been addressed.
“This shows that the challenge persists, and public involvement remains crucial in ensuring a swift response,” he said.
The ministry also plans to enhance its AI-based monitoring system to speed up the detection of harmful content and coordinate with global digital platforms to improve the efficiency of enforcement actions.
The ministry is encouraging the public to continue reporting harmful content through the official channel, https://aduankonten.id, where individuals can report various types of negative content such as fake news, pornography, hate speech, and gambling.
“Each report makes a significant impact in fostering a safer and healthier digital environment,” Alexander added.
Aduankonten.id allows users to report harmful content by submitting links or screenshots, along with reasons for their concerns. All reports are verified and followed up by the ministry’s team.
