Fatin Nursyahirah, Azzam's love story - the talk among netizens

JITRA, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Fatin Nursyahirah Yusuf, 24 and Mohamad Saiful Azzam Mohmed, 25, first met each other at the Penang Festival in 2013. 

Azzam who took a liking to Fatin Nursyahirah summoned his courage to offer her an ice-cream one day and from then on they continued to be friends on the social media. 

Two years into the friendship, Azzam now working in a company in Kuala Lumpur and Fatin Nursyahirah pursuing a degree in Geography at Universiti Malaya, decided to tie the knot this Aug 18.  

Sadly during last Ramadan, Fatin Nursyahirah, the fourth of five siblings was diagnosed with stage four soft tissue sarcoma,

“All this while I never took cancer seriously but when it happened to my younger sister I was heartbroken.

“The whole family was devastated by the news,” said Fatin Nursyahirah’s brother, Shukur , 30, when met at his home in Taman Mahsuri, here today.

Azzam however continued to stay by his sister’s side and was determined that Fatin Nursyahirah would recover and they even got engaged on June 17 which was on the third day of Ramadan.

According to Shukur, his sister’s health continued to deteriorate despite having undergone multiple surgeries from September last year to February this year. 

Last July she became paralysed from the waist down.

"Azzam was really sincere in wanting to marry my sister and both sides of the family agreed to expedite their marriage and they were married at 11am last Friday," he said.

It was a simple wedding ceremony attended by immediate family members and the marriage was solemnised while Fatin Nursyahirah was lying in bed, before she was rushed to the Jitra Hospital that evening after she complained of shortness of breath.

Less than 24 hours after her wedding, Fatin Nursyahiraq breathed her last at 5.20am on Saturday at Jitra Hospital with her husband, father and mother and Shukur at her bedside.

This outpouring of a sympathetic story from a brother who lost his sister to cancer shared on Facebook garnered 61,000 likes, 16,000 comments and 32,000 shares.
