SHAH ALAM, March 18 (Bernama) – Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is happy with the Federal Government for allocating RM2.6 billion for 39 new projects and 274 other projects to be continued in the state under the Fourth Rolling Plan 2019.
He also commended the Ministry of Economic Affairs for completing the Third Phase of the Klang Bridge Upgrading Project amounting to RM485 million to improve the level of service and reduce traffic congestion.
Sultan Sharafuddin also said he was happy with the decision made by the ministry to continue 14 development projects which were postponed, at an overall cost of RM167 million.
“I was told that various ministries and implementing agencies at the Federal level are talking to the Selangor government on 74 new projects in the state government’s wish list.
“This includes the Sungai Aur Riverbank Enforcement Project, Klang, which was approved for implementation in 2019 at a cost of RM15 million. I am convinced the good relationship between the federal government and the Selangor state government will be further strengthened in the future for the well-being of the people and prosperity of all,” he said.
Sultan Selangor was speaking at the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Second Term of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, which was also attended by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
On investments in Selangor, the Sultan said in 2018 the state received RM10.8 billion in direct investment, compared to RM2.16 billion the year before.
Sultan Sharafuddin said this showed the high level of confidence investors had in the Selangor state government and people.
“I am convinced that the state government through Invest Selangor with the cooperation of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) can increase the initiatives to bring in big investments into Selangor,” he said.
On the RM2.56 billion Budget 2019 tabled by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari last year, Sultan Selangor said 10 clusters had been identified to be included in the integrated development plan.
This includes the Aerospace Industry Cluster, the Eco-Tourism Cluster, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Cluster, the Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Cluster, and the Education Cluster, besides five more clusters which are aimed at looking for potential new economies in Selangor.
“I believe that with this strategy, the state government will be able to give added value to an area in an inclusive manner, and increase Selangor’s competitive ability to face challenges at the national and global levels,” he said.
