KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- The 100 most promising female amateur golfers from Malaysia and the region are set to tee off at the prestigious 45th Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) Ladies Amateur Open Championship, from August 2 to 4.
The players from Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and for the first time Australia will compete for the four coveted trophies – Tuanku Bahiyah (Gross Champion), Toh Puan Norashikin (Nett Champion), Datin Azian (Team Gross Champion) and Clarissa Lee (Team Nett Champion).
According to the organisers, seven golfers from Golf Australia, Australia’s junior golf programme have registered for the annual tournament, open to amateur players with a USGA (United States Golf Association) handicap of 17.4 and lower.
“The calibre of the entries is very exciting, as we already have six entries at handicap between +2 and 0. This has important bearing for our event, as it means that we are now attracting better players, and the news of our event is spreading further.
“This also means Kuala Lumpur is becoming recognized as a venue for world class amateur ladies golf,” Organising Chair Datuk Yasmin Yusuff said in a statement.
The RSGC Ladies Amateur Open has produced several Malaysian champions who later went on to play professionally. Among the first were Lim Ai Lian (Champion in 1991, 1997 and 1998) and Lim Siew Ai (Champion in 1996), an RSGC member, who went on to become Malaysia’s first LPGA player.
Fabulous hole-in-one prizes this year include a Mercedes A200, a Tahitian diamond and South Sea pearl ring worth RM16,000 from La Putri and a Titoni watch, as well as many other prizes. Love18 will again sponsor made in Malaysia chocolates.
Interested lady golfers can find more details at http://lao.thersgc.com/. Entries close on Thursday 25th of July, 2019.
