News of ship crew from Wuhan entering Melaka untrue - Health director

06/02/2020 12:57 AM

MELAKA, Feb 5 -- Claims on social media that a ship's crew from Wuhan, China had entered the country via the Kuala Linggi Port, Alor Gajah near here, are incorrect.

Melaka health director Dr Ismail Ali said the statement posted on the 'Geng Viral Melaka' Facebook page by user 'Shahnol Sundara' was incorrect, because the ship which docked with its crew on Monday (Feb 3) was not from Wuhan.

"We urge all segments of society to be careful and not spread any false news that may cause concern among the public," he said in a statement tonight.

He also said that health screenings were conducted on all crew from countries at risk, especially China, at all entry points to the country.

"People are advised to remain vigilant and practise good hygiene such as regularly washing hands with soap or using hand sanitisers, practising proper cough etiquette and refrain from visiting public places," he said.
